After Treatment up to 24-48 Hours After Most clients feel energised and "full of beans" after a massage but some people may feel emotionally tired or weepy, these responses are what we call a healing-crisis which can for some people include temporary headaches and increased visits to the toilet. This is a normal reaction of the body to the removal of toxins released through increased blood and lymph-flow created during massage and may be seen as a sign that the treatment has been effective. Aftercare handouts are give to all clients explaining this phenomena in more detail and reminding clients to ensure that they drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and eat lightly after treatment in order to support the detoxification process and thus reduce any symptoms. Oils may be used to enhance the treatment but can also be performed through the clothing in a seated position. The therapeutic effects of Indian Head Massage may last for several days following a treatment and may be further enhanced, creating an accumulative effect with regular treatments. What is Reflexology? This is a Complementary Therapy that works by stimulating nerve endings or reflexes in the feet which correspond to certain areas of the body and through the application of specific massage techniques may be encourage the bodys own healing and balancing processes. Who Can Benefit From Reflexology Reflexology may be sought by healthy individuals looking to support and maintain good health or following illness, stress, injury or disease. Many conditions can cause imbalances to vital energy pathways, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing. What to Expect During Treatment Following a foot soak and a relaxing foot massage the therapist will apply gentle but firm pressure to feet ankles and legs, or alternatively hands may be chosen for health reasons. During your treatment your therapist may detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet, and by working on these points is able to encourage the release of blockages and restore the energy flow to the corresponding body part. This therapy releases tension, can improve circulation, encourage elimination and provide a deeply relaxing and balancing treatment. Our Services - Swedish Massage What is Swedish Massage Swedish massage is a holistic massage technique involving a sequence of movements working both superficially and at deeper tissue layers. Movements such as effleurage work over the uppermost areas of skin with the palm of the hand producing relaxation and increased blood flow and movements such as wringing and kneading, work at a much deeper level helping to relieve tension and promoting deep relaxation in the tissues and muscles. Trigger points, which are small clusters of contracted muscle fibres which may be identified and worked on during a treatment, initially producing slight discomfort or pain (often referred pain from an adjacent tense muscle) but once blood flow is increased during the massage this will subside. Areas massaged in a full body massage are, fronts and backs of legs and arms, upper chest/abdomen (optional) hands, feet, back and neck. The massage therapist will use techniques that encourage and support the body's own healing, repair and balancing mechanisms. Who Can Benefit from Swedish Massage? Anyone suffering from generalised stress, people with muscular tension, headaches, back pain, circulatory problems, and persons simply looking for a slightly deeper massage than Aromatherapy can benefit from this form of massage. What is Aromatherapy? Aromatherapy is not as vigorous as Swedish massage and is much more gentle and soothing, working on the nervous system to deeply relax mind and body. The use of pure essential oils (organic where possible) adds a deeper dimension to this wonderful massage and is tailored to the individuals needs. Aromatherapy may also be defined as the therapeutic application of essential oils to enhance health. What to expect during an aromatherapy treatment After filling in your consultation forms and a short discussion on your treatment objectives specific oils will be selected to suit your skin type, therapeutic requirements and mood. The oils will then be applied (either full body or back etc) using gentle massage techniques such as effleurage, kneeding and pressure point massage. Who Can Benefit from Aromatherapy? Almost anyone can benefit from aromatherapy, including the very young and those of advancing years. This form of massage is particularly good for reducing the symptoms of stress and relaxing tired and aching muscles and for soothing many skin complaints. Last updated: 07 October 2010
